A book you can't put down!

I absolutely LOVED this book and don't even know where to start my review. This book is the second in the series and I look forward to more. Sally and her best friend Josie won a chance to compete on a cookie baking reality show. Through so many twists and turns including a murder (who killed her Ex-husband) a mobster, a brother with a grudge, Sally's boyfriend, all the other myriad of people who totally disliked him? Love the crazy characters throughout this book and how they fit into the story. The "red herrings" were well placed throwing questions into the mix to deliberatly lead us astray. Of course Sally's crazy but lovable family are thrown into the mix and we do LOVE Grandma Rosa's apparent foresight and cryptic advice. There were parts in this book that actually made me laugh, but there were also parts that made the tears run down my cheeks! This book actually got me very emotionally invested. How wonderful to be moved like that. A must read!

BAKED TO DEATH is the second book in the "Cookies and Chance" Mystery series. It is the story of two ladies who run a cookie bakery, one of which is the owner, Sal. Sal seems to attract murder and trouble and that continues in book two. This time it is her ex-husband who is murdered, and her boyfriend is accused of the crime. Many complications and red herrings occur throughout the book, leading readers into several possible directions. I must say a couple of her tentative conclusions made sense to me... It was a jam packed week between the murder and resolution, including a nail biting cookie contest worth $20,000. You will have to read the book to see how it all turns out, but I will tell you it is an enjoyable mystery and a nice story about family and friends believing the best. There are moments of humor, between her Grandmother's English and Mrs. G's perception of reality, I enjoyed some chuckles.

Cookie recipes are included in the book. I haven't had a chance to try them yet, but they look straightforward and easy to make.

If you haven't read book 1 in the series (TASTES LIKE MURDER), you will still enjoy this book. As with most series however, you will enjoy it more if you read the series in order. Either way, read it and enjoy!

FUN FUN read!

This was FUN! So, my first intro to Jennifer Lewis was in the Love Is... anthology where I got to read about Gibran! And it was wonderful! SO I jumped at the chance for this short story when it came available on NetGalley!
You don't have to read the back stories of Osman and Sam and Veronica and Zadir to enjoy this story, but that would depend on you. I wish that I had. Only because their back stories is how they fell in love and this is their 'wedding' so it makes sense to read them first. Just my reading OCD LOL But now I have two wonderful stories to look forward to on my TBR list :)
This little short story is about Sam (American wife to King Osman) bringing to Ubar their first Christmas celebration. And let's just say Ubar is NOT ready for all that! LOL Mayhem run amok I tell ya! Really really fantastic read. We also have Veronica marrying her beloved Zadir and Sam wanting to basically re-marry Osman with her traditions.
This is really worth a read ... It's a crazy ride and you won't be able to stop yourself for loving everyone (almost) lol

This novella is book 2.5 in the Desert Kings series. You don't have to have read the others to enjoy it but the first book is currently available as a free download so is also worth checking out!

Sam Al Kilanjar is the American wife of the King, Osman Al Kilanjar, and is organising her first Christmas there which is to be celebrated by the wedding of her friend Veronica to Zadir, her brother-in-law. She is also going to be remarried herself as, although married according to Ubarite tradition, she has dreamed of having a more traditional wedding, too, with her parents present this time. Mistletoe, butterflies, goats, Veronica's estranged parents and over 300 guests turn Sam into Bridezilla/Christmaszilla! When sabotage occurs and her husband has to investigate, total mayhem seems to be the order of the day! Will things get sorted? Will the girls both have the weddings they'd dreamt of? A Welcome Addition to books on body psychotherapy

"Body Psychotherapy" is the second offering in a series that aims to bring the post-graduate student/professional up to speed on the latest advances in theory and therapeutic practice. This anthology of articles by qualified professionals in the field of body psychotherapy brings together a diverse number of contemporary voices to illuminate the various issues and themes that dominate thinking on body psychotherapy. The contributors include Tree Staunton (also editor), Nick Totton (author of the newly released; Body Psychotherapy, An Introduction), Babette Rothschild, Margaret Landale, Rose Cameron, Roz Carroll, Phillipa Vick, Bernd Eiden, and Roger J. Woolger, with a foreword by Andrew Samuels. With the exception of Babette Rothschild (an American), all of the contributors have a British background of training or currently practice in Britian. This would seem to give the reader primarily a perspective on contemporary currents of body psychotherapy in Britian. However, most of the articles are of general enough interest to not suffer the drawback to be expected from specialized treatment on a theme. Most memorable is Totton's article on the historic development of body psychotherapy from the psychoanalytic tradition, from which it has been severed, and his other article on "The future of body psychotherapy", which is the best brief introduction to body psychotherapy I've read. Also notable is Bernd Eiden's article on Reichian charcter structure, Tree Staunton's piece on "Sexuality in Psychotherapy", and Roger J. Woolger's discussion of somaticly anchored past-life memories. Each of the articles was specifically written for this work so that their unavailability elsewhere makes this book a must.

The book provides a very good overview of the many aspects that come into play when practicing psychotherapy centered on the body. There are several contributors to the book, including Babette Rothscild a well known trauma therapist and writer, who give a balanced view of the benefits and cautions when working with the body.

A must read with Collier's original book

I absolutely found this book valuable and insightful. I love Collier's book and having this companion book, the value and insights just jump off the page. The author hits many of the key ideas in "The secret of the ages" and adds her own ideas about how to implement these important thoughts. I have so many passages of the book highlighted (on my kindle) that it's one I simply must go back to and reread every year. In summary, a great value to enrich every part of your life.

An interpretation - NOT Collier's Classic Text!!

I was looking for a Kindle edition of Robert Collier's classic, "Secret of the Ages", This book is a mere interpretation of that book, with the author's own insights and contains very little of original work. I was sorely disappointed that this was not made clearer in the product description. I blame myself for not taking more time to make certain it was the book that I wanted.

About the Author

Steven H. Simon, Professor of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics, Department of Physics, University of Oxford, and Fellow of Somerville College, Oxford.

Professor Steven Simon earned a BSc degree from Brown in Physics & Mathematics in 1989 and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Harvard in 1995. Following a two-year post-doc at MIT, he joined Bell Labs, where he was a director of research for nine years. He is currently Professor of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Somerville College, Oxford.

His research is in the area of condensed matter physics and communication, including subjects ranging from microwave propagation to high temperature superconductivity. He is interested in quantum effects and how they are manifested in phases of matter. He has recently been studying phases of matter known as "topological phases" that are invariant under smooth deformations of space-time. He is also interested in whether such phases of matter can be used for quantum information processing and quantum computation.

Great Introductory Text For Solid State Physics

I tried to prepare for my first solid state physics course using Kittel and Ashcroft/Mermin. They are both OK books but their method of teaching the subject is not very intuitive. I found myself lost between the huge gaps in their derivations. Simon talks you through each section; it reads very much like a lecture. After reading this book, the other two books made a lot more sense. I highly suggest reading this book first, though. I had so many misunderstandings from the other two books that I had to unlearn a lot of things. The best part is that Simon actually tells you chapters in the other books to read further if you want more than an introduction to the specific topic at hand. I wanted to give this book 4.5 stars but Amazon has quantized the stars to whole integers. The reason I wanted to take off a half star is because of the jumps in derivations. Unfortunately, in upper division physics, almost all texts do this, some more than others. While I wish he would work out some example problems and not make giant leaps in derivations, it wasn't worth a whole point deduction. Hands down best introductory Solid State Physics textbook.

Great Introductory Solid State

This is a great introductory level solid state book. I really appreciate the humor and the way the content is presented as in a story book. Definitely not your typical boring textbook. I've recommended it to my student and they all appreciated its crystal clear explanations. It is not too heavy in math but the physics is flawless. An amazing resource I will recommend for a Solid State Course.
